As many of you already know, since 2009, Viña Morandé is part and founding member of the Carignan group of vintners and producers and I am personally very involved in the project since I am part of the association’s board of directors. This group has the purpose of rescuing the valuable wine heritage that this variety means, which has been cultivated for decades naturally in the dryland area of ​​the Maule region.

This group called “Vigno” with G de Carignan, proposes the care of this variety and raises the need for the transcendence of the strain, through some rules, such as the purchase of grapes at a fair price, being able to carry the D.O and the word VIGNO -on a label whose wine is made from 85% Carignan and is aged for a minimum of 24 months, whether in the bottle or another container. In addition, the grapes must come from vineyards over 30 years old planted in dry conditions in the Maule Valley.This is how we, and under the concepts of this group, created Morandé Vigno, a blend of Carignan and Syrah from old vines, planted on top of the coastal dry land, which seeks to rescue this emblematic variety. With our extensive knowledge of the terroir and the vine, we have created a wine with a deep identity, capable of expressing and representing not only the best expression of the vine, but also its origin and its people.
