Today, I want to share the story of our sparkling wines, a tale that embodies the bold and innovative spirit that has defined our winery since its inception. Over 40 years ago, when Pablo Morandé took a leap of faith by investing in the then-unknown Casablanca Valley, he laid the foundation for what is now one of Chile’s most prestigious wineries. Driven by our quest for excellence, we set our sights on an essential goal: crafting the finest sparkling wines in the country.
More than 17 years ago, inspired by the exceptional quality of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes in Casablanca, Pablo Morandé envisioned creating sparkling wines using the traditional method. His goal was to produce a sparkling wine that could rival the world’s finest champagnes. From this vision, Blanc de Noir was born—an elegant and refined sparkling wine crafted from Pinot Noir, aged between 24 and 54 months. This aging process, combined with a second fermentation in the bottle, imparts a creamy texture and unparalleled complexity, quickly establishing Blanc de Noir as a true luxury within Chile’s sparkling wine offerings.
At Viña Morandé, however, we didn’t stop at just one style of sparkling wine. Our desire to innovate and explore led us to experiment with the historic País grape, a treasure of Chilean viticulture dating back to colonial times. From this variety, we created Brut K.O., a sparkling wine aged for only six months, characterized by its approachable and straightforward profile. With Brut K.O., we aimed to provide a fresh and uncomplicated option while maintaining the same high-quality standards that define our traditional method sparkling wines. This wine features delicate, perfectly integrated bubbles achieved through the champenoise method, striking a harmonious balance between freshness and elegance.
Another standout in our sparkling wine portfolio is Brut Nature, crafted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Casablanca Valley. Known for its structure and delicate flavor balance, Brut Nature’s lively bubbles and crisp freshness make it an ideal choice for celebrations or special occasions. It has been recognized as Chile’s Best Sparkling Wine by the prestigious Descorchados guide for 11 consecutive years.
Our sparkling wine portfolio also includes Extra Brut Charmat, a 100% Chardonnay sparkling wine from our vineyards in Casablanca. The region’s cool climate and significant temperature variation allow for slow, controlled grape maturation. Extra Brut Charmat is celebrated for its fine, persistent bubbles, aromas of pear and green apple, elegant texture, and complex finish.
Over the years, Viña Morandé has solidified its presence as a leader in Chile’s sparkling wine industry. Each bottle we produce is a testament to the winemaking excellence achieved through innovation, tradition, and a profound respect for Chilean viticulture.
