Sourced from the Maule Valley, Terroir Wines is a line from Viña Morandé that celebrates the vast potential and rich wine heritage of this unique region in Chile.
Recognized as the largest wine-growing valley in the country, the Maule Valley stands out for its geographical and climatic diversity, ranging from flat, sunny areas to coastal hills and a broad central corridor. With more than 50,000 hectares of vineyards, 74% are planted with red varieties and 26% with white, reflecting the area’s great adaptability to a wide range of grape types.
Maule’s Mediterranean climate, influenced by cold winds from the Andes, contributes to a high daily temperature variation and a reduced period of maximum temperatures. These conditions allow for optimal grape ripening, enhancing the concentration of flavors and aromas. Additionally, the granitic soils, formed by the decomposition of rocks over millions of years, provide an ideal environment for the cultivation of both red and white varieties. It is in these soils of the interior and coastal drylands where the vines find their perfect place, allowing the creation of wines with a unique identity and character deeply rooted in this terroir.
In its mission to preserve the wine tradition of the Maule Valley, Viña Morandé developed Terroir Wines, a project that goes beyond mere wine production. This line is crafted from century-old vines, honoring the region’s ancient practices, such as partnerships with small artisanal producers and old bush-pruned vines. With a modern approach, Terroir Wines invites wine lovers to discover a “new, old Chile,” blending history and innovation in every bottle.
The Terroir Wines portfolio includes three wines:
Carmenère-Malbec: This wine combines the characteristics of two great varieties, offering notes of black fruits, cedar, and clove. On the palate, it is round, smooth, and complex, with a structure that delights the senses and evokes the richness of the Maule Valley.
Cinsault-País: With a medium to light body, this wine is juicy and full of vibrant fruity flavors. Its freshness and character make it an authentic expression of the valley’s traditional varieties, capturing the essence of old vines and traditional winemaking methods.
Semillón: A white wine with great freshness and acidity, displaying notes of citrus fruits, pears, and a hint of honey. This Semillón reflects the versatility of the Maule terroir, standing out for its juiciness and perfect balance.
Each Terroir Wine is a work that encapsulates the spirit of the Maule Valley, showcasing the extraordinary value and authenticity that define this region. Viña Morandé, with its expertise and passion for viticulture, seeks to honor the unique terroir of the Maule Valley with this line, bringing the richness of its soils and the tradition of its vineyards to every glass.
