Vitis Única: A Portfolio of Excellence

Feb 10, 2025 | News

Since its inception, Viña Morandé has been a winery defined by experimentation and innovation. These principles have been the foundation upon which we have built our identity and philosophy. Over the years, we have committed to pushing the boundaries of Chilean viticulture, crafting wines that stand out not only for their grape varieties but also for their designations of origin and the unconventional winemaking methods we employ. This approach has allowed us to bring unprecedented wines to the market, always seeking to surprise and provide unique experiences to those who taste them.

A clear example of this philosophy is our Vitis Única line, a portfolio that brings together wines made from traditional grape varieties but sourced from meticulously selected plots within each terroir. The key to this line lies in our ability to identify the areas with the greatest potential for each variety, allowing us to highlight the typicity of each wine while continuing to challenge conventional winemaking techniques.

To achieve this goal, at Viña Morandé, we employ a variety of unconventional winemaking practices. Manual punch-downs, fermentation with stems, the use of foudres, lagares, concrete eggs, and ceramic vats are just some of the techniques we incorporate into our winemaking process. These methods, combined with our dedication and passion, allow us to create wines with remarkable complexity, structure, and elegance.

In the Vitis Única line, terroir plays a fundamental role. Each wine is crafted using grapes from specific sectors within the vineyards, ensuring that each variety reaches its fullest expression. These wines perfectly represent the interaction between nature and cutting-edge winemaking.

Vitis Única Chardonnay is a wine of great freshness and volume, with a rich and delicate texture that achieves a perfect balance between acidity and fruit. Vitis Única Sauvignon Blanc stands out for its complexity, with fresh and mineral flavors accompanied by citrus and herbal notes. Vitis Única Pinot Noir is an intense, highly fruity wine with floral aromas and an elegant, complex, and persistent structure. All of these wines come from the Casablanca Valley, a region renowned for producing high-quality cool-climate wines.

In contrast, Vitis Única Cabernet Sauvignon and Vitis Única Carmenere originate from the Maipo Valley, a region famous for its ability to cultivate Bordeaux varieties. The Cabernet Sauvignon is distinguished by its full body and velvety tannins, while the Carmenere offers earthy complexity with massive yet silky tannins. The influence of the Andes Mountains and the alluvial soils of Maipo allow for excellent grape ripening, resulting in elegant wines with great aging potential.

Lastly, the inclusion of Vitis Única Mourvèdre in our lineup is a unique proposal. This grape variety, still relatively unexplored in Chile, offers freshness, intense aromas, and an elegant body. Sourced from the Maule Valley, a region of great geographic and climatic diversity, this wine is a true gem in our portfolio, reflecting our ongoing quest to discover new possibilities in viticulture.

Vitis Única is undoubtedly a portfolio worth discovering. Each of its wines reflects not only the effort and dedication of our winery but also our passion for innovation and the art of winemaking.
